The Wahiawa-Waialua Rotary Club proposed to the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation that they do a Club Service Project on the historic Waialua Community Association Building, also known locally as the Haleiwa Gym. They suggested to the Weinberg Foundation, that in return for the Service Project, a $10,000.00 Grant be given to a 501 (c) (3) organization, "New Life Body of Christ Christian Church" located at 74 S. Kam Highway in Wahiawa. Bishop Michael A. Henderson is the Senior Pastor of the church. The Wahiawa-Waialua Club then enlisted four other Rotary Clubs to join them in a combined effort. The following clubs quickly took up the call and provided the Wahiawa-Waialua Rotary Club their full support; Kapolei, Mililani Sunrise, West Pearl Harbor, and Waianae Coast.
On Sat., Nov 18th, 2006, over 30 Rotarians from the above named Clubs and other supporters met at the Waialua Community Association Building at 7:00 A.M. and worked until noon. Rotary members and supporters provided much needed maintenance to the front of the building and entrance way by cleaning, painting, and replacing screens. They also cleaned and painted the stage area of the gym so it can be used in future programs by the Association.
Once the work was completed, the Rotary members and supporters joined together for a delicious marinade chicken and steak lunch.
The $10,000.00 Grant by the Weinberg Foundation will be used by the New Life Body of Christ Church in various community projects such as their Food Bank, Clothing Closet, Youth Center, Crisis Center, Youth & Computer Learning Center, and more.
