I am so proud to have been chosen as District Governor for Hawaii and I want to welcome all of you to this years theme - Rotary Shares. You are now part of the team that will show the world how Rotary in Hawaii Shares.

Rotary is about human beings love and compassion for other human beings, whoever and wherever they may be. Rotary allows us to express that love and compassion and to share it. Rotary allows people like you and me - people whose lives revolve around our families, our jobs, and our communities - to reach beyond our daily lives to do, and be, something more. It allows us to open our hearts to people we might never meet and to share the love that we have for our own communities with a community thousands of miles away.

As a Rotarian you play a vital role in the success of Rotary in Hawaii. President Wilf Wilkinson has called on all of us to lead by example by being more involved with your club activities. Volunteer your time and talent to carry out service projects. Become involved with your club membership committee and help Rotary in Hawaii grow. Invite your family to become involved with your Rotary experience and continue to support the Foundation so we can continue to do our remarkable community and international service projects this district is known for.

I have asked each club president to complete one community service project addressing water, health, hunger, poverty and/or homelessness in your community. I have also asked the club presidents to complete one World Community Service project or partner with another club to complete one. I have also asked the presidents to focus on their club culture by encouraging more social and family interaction at the club level, and hosting multi-club social events. My belief is that this interaction is key to a clubs health and it creates deeper bonds within our Rotary community. Youth is also one of my key areas his year. I have asked the clubs to continue to support our literacy campaign in Hawaii, become more involved with RYLA camps, support youth exchanges, and to consider supporting Hawaii Rotary Youth Foundation so that we can award more academic scholarships to Hawaii youth this year.

Together lets make a difference this year and show the world how ROTARY in Hawaii SHARES!
