Speaker: Ralph Martin
Subject: Sunshine Foundation
Date Speaking: 11/29/07
Ralph moved to Hawaii in 2005 after retiring as a Major from the Colorado State Patrol, where he served as an officer for 35 years. His wife Linda transferred here in her job with the federal government. Ralph has four grown children and seven grandchildren in Colorado.
During his career, Ralph founded a chapter of the Sunshine Foundation, which is the original wish-granting organization for ill children. His idea was for State Patrol members across the state to serve as the 'eyes and ears' of children deserving a once in a lifetime dream through the Sunshine Foundation. Among the chapter's highlights from 1994 - 2004:
* 24 Children's dreams granted to children from all around the state
* 1 Dreamlift flew 102 children to Disneyland for the day (March 1995)
* 1 Fun-filled weekend for 8 children at the Triple M Ranch near Steamboat Lake
* 3 Noteworthy Special Events assisting the Mercer County New Jersey Chapter, including escorting two Denver Broncos Cheerleaders to the annual Mercer County Sunshine Ball.
